2000 年 8 月 7 日, FreeBSD JDK チームは
Sun の JCK (Java Compatability Kit)
へアクセスできるようになりました.
これにより動作試験ができるようになっただけでなく,
(望むらくは)
現在のパッチセットを使ったバイナリバージョンのリリースが可能になるでしょう.
ただし, 残念ながら (法的な理由により) JDK 1.1.* リリースでできたような
JCK に適合する JDK そのものの配布はできません.
<p>(わたしたちは *まだ* やったことがないのですが) Sun によると,
残念ながら JCK を FreeBSD の移植版に適用するのは困難で,
時間のかかる作業になるということです.
願わくば, Sun が予測している 3 カ月という時間がかからないことを祈ります :(</p>
<p>最終的に, 完全な公開リリースを作成する前に解決する必要のある,
Motif 関連の問題がいくつか残っています.
Sun はこの問題に取り組んでいますが, わたしたちも OpenGroup
にコンタクトを試みて, FreeBSD 版 JDK の配布に利用できるような,
特別な Motif バイナリ配布を得ることができるかどうか確認する必要があります.</p></li>
