From 95843e646984dbafdd5f646b6b9bcdff3f3a3036 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: "David E. O'Brien" Date: Sat, 10 Jan 1998 23:46:52 +0000 Subject: [PATCH] Add note that "version required" should be kept upto date. After speaking with Satoshi, it seems only the "Date created" and "Author" shouldn't be updated. Now I 100% find "version required" to be totally useless, as apose to the 5% usefulness in documenting the first version used for the port. --- handbook/porting.sgml | 9 +++++---- 1 file changed, 5 insertions(+), 4 deletions(-) diff --git a/handbook/porting.sgml b/handbook/porting.sgml index 3cd6f3215d..cae036136b 100644 --- a/handbook/porting.sgml +++ b/handbook/porting.sgml @@ -1,4 +1,4 @@ - + Porting an existing piece of free software @@ -1550,11 +1550,12 @@ msql:*:80:249:mSQL-2 pseudo-user:/var/db/msqldb:/bin/sh locate. - [the header...just to make it easier for us to identify the ports. - This header should not be changed when upgrading the port later.] + [the header...just to make it easier for us to identify the ports.] # New ports collection makefile for: xdvi + [the version required header should updated when upgrading a port.] # Version required: pl18 [things like "1.5alpha" are fine here too] - [this is the date when the first version of this Makefile was created] + [this is the date when the first version of this Makefile was created. + Never change this when doing an update of the port.] # Date created: 26 May 1995 [this is the person who did the original port to FreeBSD, in particular, the person who wrote the first version of this Makefile.
