8d67096409 There have been a number of upgrade failure reports, and most of them seem
to stem from external dependencies not getting updated. (Here, external
dependencies are ports which do NOT depend upon glib20.) I'm suspecting that
the cause of this is inconsistent package databases. Inconsistent pkgdbs will
cause portupgrade(1) to silently fail, but portinstall and pkg_delete will
still work just fine. (I really wish gnu had agreed to make pkgdb(1) return
meaningful error codes -- or any error codes at all!)

So, instead of running pkgdb -F, we're now running pkgdb -fu. This will
hopefully rebuild the entire database from scratch, and leave us with a
consistent database every time. And just in case, we follow it with a
pkgdb -F for good measure.

Additionally, I've changed the script's version number to be a bit more
legible, and thus a bit more meaningful.

Also, there is now a -v option which prints some basic version/revision
information.

I'd like to thank Alexandre Vasconcelos's horribly inconsistent package
database for inspiring the pkgdb change ;;)

2b425e4e27 Apply some important fixes to the GNOME upgrade script that I really
really really should have applied earlier.

	* On a restart, continue where we left off, instead of removing
all applications and starting over again. The end result will
be the same either way, but if you're not using ccache(1), the
build time can be really frustrating.

	* When the script runs pkgdb(1), pkgdb complains about the
nautilus-media port having been removed. Add a message to
inform users not to worry about it, and to just hit Enter
	  to ignore the error.

	* GNOME_UPGRADE_SH_VER bump.

280592133a Add documentation about the Ports Management (portmgr) team.
policies.sgml gathers together the various policies that portmgr has
promulgated in the past to try to assure the integrity of the Ports
Collection. It is indexed more-or-less in order of the responsibilities
listed in charter.sgml.

qa.sgml explains the work that portmgr does for Quality Assurance (QA)
for the ports collection, both during and between release cycles, to
help increase the visibility of its role.

The portmgr team requests that they be allowed a courtesy review of any
proposed changes to these files.

48eb2ae5ce Update to reflect reality:
1. The security-officer alias goes to three people, not four; there is
one member of the core team on the alias, not two.
2. Our set of close working relationships includes DragonFlyBSD as well
as the older BSDs.
3. We usually commit security fixes to HEAD and the security branches
(nearly) simultaneously; there is no longer a significant lag between
disclosure-via-CVS and the advisory being sent out.

b780974175 - Change release list to a table which also includes links to relevant
release documentation, and lists 4.11.
- Add DVD where we just referred to CD-ROM.
- Remove note about installing from one installation disk image, since
you now (for quite a while) need multiple floppy images, and it's
pretty standard to only require one CD-ROM for basic install.
- Also mention BSD Mall and put a link to the Handbook section of
  CD-ROM/DVD vendors.
- Suggest downloading i386 when in doubt.
- Remove direct links to -CURRENT and -STABLE package collections FTP,
since browsing the FTP directories is a rather bad way to get an
  idea of which packages exist.
- Add a link to FreshPorts.
- Use trademark symbol for MS-DOS.
- Use standard capitalization of Ports Collection.
- s/ftp/FTP/g and s/WWW/Web/g where appropriate.
- s/-current/-CURRENT/g where appropriate. [1]

077359f925 Belatedly add the Portmgr's charter that core@ approved in November
2001 and published to developers@ and ports@ to the internal handbook.
Portmgr has been operating under this charter since then, but people
were having problems finding this in the email archives. Add it to
our internal page so that people no longer have this problem.

I'll also note that core.2 intended to give a very borad range of
powers to portmgr@ to manage the ports tree, while retaining the
ability to clarify and refine the charter over time.

d1b6752adf Add a new 'desirable' feature. Do some whitespace cleanups and some
fixes to make it a bit more in line with standards for formatting in
a few places. I broke with standards for the table header entries but
I think this format will help people make sure they get the right number
of entries for the rows - this format for the <th> entries matches what
all the other row definitions wind up using for the <td> entries.
