13ed159fa4 Remove silly alarm() call. 
It was introduced in r44001, and never reverted.

This should finally fix the issue that you got corrupt tarballs
for larger data, or under high load.

03c522ecab Announce 12.0-RELEASE: 
- Update entities to reflect 12.0 is now available.
- Add 12.0 to the index page and handbook.
- Update man.cgi to add 12.0.
- Prune checksum files from RC2 and RC3.

e0230f227e use https instead of http for this link.
