6f95ee42bd PR: www/121756: 
2 links pointing to ezine.daemonnews.org are no longer working.

As the whole daemonnews site is in rather bad shape at the moment (many broken
links over there) deactivate the links for the moment (but leave them in the
source code in case they come accessible again).

While here fix two other issues:
- Remove the entry "Install for Newbies" as there is no source mentioned
and as the article has been incorporated in the handbook a loooooooong time
ago.
- Ad "4.1" to the link about "Split DNS" as this is the FreeBSD version the
article describes.

23b721bdbd - Whitespace changes. We do not normally fix whitespace in itself, but these 
files were so messy and thus they were so hard to read that maintaining
  existing translations or translating these files was very difficult.
  I've also fixed capitalized elements and attributes.

2c63f2088e Add a new HAL FAQ which explains how to work with the Freedesktop Hardware 
Abstraction Layer (i.e. volume auto-mounting, troubleshooting, etc.).  Link
this new FAQ into the navibar, and replace our old auto-mounting question
with a link to this new FAQ.

While in our general FAQ, clean up the question on gnome-keyring.

c4d15192c9 Forced commit to provide more detail for commit message for 
ideas.xml:1.38:

The syncer project idea is being removed because the current idea
fails to reflect the high level of complexity and interdependence
with other subsystems, and the specific strategy identified in the
idea is not the consensus view on the way forward.  We will hold a
buffer cache strategy session at the devsummit to try and iron out
a plan forward, and can re-add specific items generated by that
group to the ideas list once agreement is reached on direction.
At this point, any actual coding would be highly premature.

3cb63115c6 Un-tag sysenter support as soc-friendly; the gains on i386 are believed to 
be questionable, and this particular project idea seems not to lead to
good SoC proposals (after a year or two of efforts), so leave it where
students can find it, but don't specifically encourage proposals for the
idea.

22bb1c8599 - Remove the list of currently existing snapshots and just point 
people at the FTP directory.  It's very often the list is out of
  date and the list doesn't bring much useful information which can't
  quickly be found by just looking in the FTP directories.
- Note that snapshots are currently done for FreeBSD 6, 7, and 8.

7086b79779 Some updates: 
- FireWire is locked now.
 - Doug Rabson is working on a kernel level lockd, sponsored by Isilon.
   The code looks promising, as such remove the lockd entries until we
   can identify if there needs to be a replacement / some help or not.
 - ext2fs with gjournal would be incompatible with Linux, this is not
   desired. Scratch the gjournal part and reword to look out for
   improvements we could obtain from NetBSD.
 - iSCSI is in FreeBSD now.
 - Comment out the sensors framework entry until we have a definitive
   decission regarding the architecture we want to have for FreeBSD.

28d9561a82 A few post-stone age updates for the About page: 
- We now support PowerPC, and shortly will support MIPS.
- You might want to build an appliance or embedded product on FreeBSD, as
  many others do.
- We have over 17,000 applications, but most of the so-called "commercial
  UNIX workstations" don't even exist any more, so don't mention them.
- Floppy disk and tape installs OBE.

There's more work to be done here.

906214e88d Add 6.3-RELEASE to the EoL table; it will be supported until the end of 
January 2010.

Insert the same date as the estimated EoL for RELENG_6; if there turns
out to be a 6.4-RELEASE at some later date, the EoL for RELENG_6 will
be correspondingly extended, but unless/until the release engineering
team decides that 6.4-RELEASE will happen users should plan on moving
to RELENG_7 before the end of January 2010.

32a53aa35c Enable <link rel="alternate"> links to rss.xml feeds so that 
feedreaders and browsers can automatically find the RSS feeds on these
pages without the user having to click on the rss link.  For FireFox
users this enables an orange rss logo on the right side of the
location bar, and something similar shows up for IE and Safari.

b1cf81d485 Hide the rel2.current (5.5) link for the time being to make 7.0BETA1.5 
and soon 6.3BETA1 more prominent, and to reduce clutter on the front
page.

Note that most of the 5.5-RELEASE files have already been removed from
the FTP mirrors.

This change should be backed out once rel.current becomes 7.0 and
rel2.current becomes 6.2/6.3.

e2cd8a6036 Move EoL date for 6.2-RELEASE from January 31st to May 31st. Although 
6.2-RELEASE is a "normal" release, and would therefore only be supported
for 12 months normally, we're going to give it an extra 4 months of

b3edeb15d0 Disable option 'Closed reports too:' if no user input is given. 
For whatever reasons, the perl script query-pr-summary.cgi is horrible slow
for large output. It take more than 4 CPU minutes to parse 100_000 lines text.

It also doesn't make sense to generate a 20MB large HTML table.

916f6b9f66 Retire docs/man.html page since it has tendency to get out of date pretty 
easily (it actually is partly broken at the moment). I will just leave
hyperlink for direct man.cgi script in the navigation.

db23442730 Update some links to resources for newbies: 
1. Remove the "Download instructions"
- The mentioned site is not updated any longer so it's just
  confusing for newbies.
- Most newbies don't download via FTP.  Even if they
  do, they will normally download the ISO-images, not the
  different distributions.
- www/en/where.sgml already describes how to get FreeBSD
  and is up-to-date.

2. "The Complete FreeBSD"
- This book can be downloaded free of charge since 2006 from
  http://www.lemis.com/grog/Documentation/CFBSD/.  So link to
  this site.

3. article "new-users".
- It has been in the doc-tree for a long time now.  So link
  to it.
- The docs at the also mentioned FTP-site are outdated.
  Recent versions are available from the FreeBSD.org servers
  (just like the article itself).
