1. It allows us to put the McKinley die in the upper right corner of
the page and thus make it part of the header. This is aesthetically
more pleasing.
2. It makes it easier for us to add news entries.
Aside for point 1, the page is still the same as the previous index.

If I'm allowed a guess: the McKinley photomicrograph comes from HP
and the Merced photomicrograph comes from Intel.
o make it clear that we want to work towards becoming a tier 1 by
giving the subject a subsection of its own. List what it involves.
o Add a "sharpening the saw" section for the many things that have
been kludged or hacked and that need a revisit and possibly a
rewrite.
o Flesh out the "ports and packages" section. This is growing in
importance.
and cvs@ hasn't replied to the repo copy request this file has been
added as a new file. History can be found in ../ia64.sgml. Not really
optimal, but such is life.

also collect pictures and dmesg(8) output...
