eb77f79136 Introduce ftp.lt.FreeBSD.org, the new Lithuanian FTP mirror. Brought to 
you by Domas Mituzas <domas.mituzas@delfi.lt>, Delfi's Chief Unix Admin,
on 52mbit/s satellite + 6mbit fiberoptic to the world, and 100mbit in peers.
Delfi runs the Lithuania Network Exchange.  Neat!

ftp7 is hosted by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory on an OC12.

ftp9 is hosted by CERIAS at Purdue University on several T3s.

webspace.  Tell them to place dists into ~/public_distfiles/, as per

Since this document is written for port authors, not just committers,
only tell committers this information in a back-handed manner.

2ab26bee8c Add our new cvsup5.de.FreeBSD.org, 
another german mirror for the FreeBSD CVSup service.
It updates hourly from cvsup-master.freebsd.org.

Technically it is hosted on ftp.ecrc.net and this way has a
direct 100 MBit/s full-duplex link to the Cable & Wireless
ECRC 2 GBit/s back-bone network (which in turn is connected
world-wide with several large links, each up to 622 MBit/s; see
http://www.ecrc.de/netzwerk/netzwerk_backbone.html for details).

In case of trouble with this CVSup mirror, contact me.

867674ba99 This should've been my first commit, ideally. 
Following the advice in `tutorials/committers-guide/conventions.html',

additional-contributors.

Also, added a newsflash item stating the above fact.

Didn't quite know what the numbers in
ports/astro/xearth/files/freebsd.committers.markers meant. So, left
that alone :-)

where he addressed many nits in Eric's changes and/or suggested how to
rewrite parts in a correct/better way and gave me some further content.

Eric's patches removed some of Bill Swingle's old work.  I decided
to keep these but to merge Eric's changes into the existing content.

The result is a very fine NIS tutorial, which is supposed to be extended
by NIS Netgroups content written by Udo Erdelhoff soon (at least he
promised that :-])

fc5a0e79cb With the old description of what FreeBSD is, one could have thought 
that 4.4BSD-lite was for the i386 platform.  Reorder sentence to
avoid this.  Confusion came up on the German Translators List.

While I'm here: FreeBSD is also for the Alpha platform.

2322692611 Add a note that you don't need to build world to make release if you have 
a populated /usr/obj.  While I'm here, fix the code around these bits --
it now uses <screen> as it should instead <literallayout> like it was
using before.

612b4ade78 When submitting a new port, one should add a description of the program 
to the "Description" field and the shar/tarball to the "Fix" field.

ff5aaba5d8 Fix some stupid mistakes I made when adding des' CVS primer: 
* $FreeBSD$ shouldn't be expanded when used in the explanation of
   conflicts.
 * Add some markup bits I missed, fix typoes, fix broken hyphenation
   caused by joining lines together which had hyphenated words split over
   them.

e22a8d4ce6 For the new buildkernel/installkernel targets, /usr/src/* must exist. 
release-versions of FreeBSD might only contain /usr/src/sys.
The old description lead to misunderstandings for newbies.
Clarify that you still have to use the old method if you don't sync src/
with the FreeBSD project.

a26dd557eb Rewrite the abstract. This isn't just a CVS document any more. 
Shift the information about the repository-meisters in to the first
section about CVS.

Re-write the list of things that a new committer should do as a numbered
list.  Mention the existence of the xearth committers' markers file.

61c51e4134 Yet another question I've seen asked once too often on -questions: 
"why do I keep getting messages like ``root: not found'' from
cron?".  (I haven't seen it for a while actually, but hopefully
with this I'll never see it again. :-)
