b35a30a7fe Try to bring the handbook introduction a little more up to date. 
I think the majority of this chapter likely needs to be completely
rewritten, and hope to see it done soon.  However, in the mean time,
at least try to make the handbook introduction a little more
current.

87bce4edad - Throwing a bunch of random dates and numbers is largely uninteresting so just give some historical background. 
- Remove attribution as the section has been changed and modified many times since then (and should be some more)
- Change from <quote> to "s where not used as an attribution.
- Simplify text surrounding snapshots.

0adca5acd8 Remove the suggestion that we export the src and ports trees to CVS 
still - it's only partially true for src and no longer true for ports.

I initially reworded it to add the history here, but eventually
settled on simply removing the paragraph entirely as the extra
detail is no longer necessary, and certainly not necessary in what
is supposed to be a brief introduction to FreeBSD.

fffad858e3 Remove support for FreeBSD prior to 7.0 from the Handbook. 
More specifically:
- mentions of old versions of FreeBSD in historical context are left in tact
- remove section about KerberosIV
- remove section about SAP R/3
- remove mentions of XFree86
- only support gvinum
- update examples to 7.X or 8.X
- remove Alpha support
- add COMPAT_FREEBSD[67] kernel options
- csup(1) now only in the base system
- update (tty) device names, add warnings for 7.X
- remove MD5 from the port checksum algorithms
- update port versions (probably not all)
- add definitions for ctm-src[5-8] to mailing-lists.ent
