adc8e4d736 - Some SGML fixes (use of the right attribute for directories); 
- Add missing application, command, username, etc. tags;
- Add some manual page entities;
- For the audit_class content I changed some tags and used the
  description fields used in /etc/security/audit_class to make this
  part easier to read and closer to what the user will find on his
  machine;
- Contraction removal;
- Add missing words and fix typos and punctuation.

9c7740b287 Generalize this article to include information about developers who are 
not committers, since only a subset of the information here applies to them.

To date, this has only included people who have been given GNATS access
without a commit bit.

The refactoring of the text is admittedly awkward, but anything else
would probably be a significant rewrite.

discontinuation of 4.X and alpha packages; document the few times that

e2b30fe74c Extend the jails chapter with the new section called "Application of 
Jails". This section is going to provide a few examples how can be
jails used in production. Also bring in the first example, or howto,
called "Service Jails" which is basically based on a document
originally written by simon@ and an updated article by Ken Tom.

I think this section is in a pretty good shape, but any additional
grammar or logic updates are welcome!

74936af500 Correct several typos, etc. in jail chapter: 
- Correct misuse of '.' and '_'
 - ntohl() converts from network order to host order,
   which is described oppositely.
 - Userland jail.c does not do fork() before execve(),
   reflect the fact.
 - prison_ip() returns 0 when IP is owned by the current
   jail, and the arch handbook describes the opposite.

e3016f611e Back out all POSIXified *env() changes. 
Not because I admit they are technically wrong and not because of bug
reports (I receive nothing). But because I surprisingly meets so
strong opposition and resistance so lost any desire to continue that.

Anyone who interested in POSIX can dig out what changes and how
through cvs diffs.

ac0dc22ace Fix an address specification in the IPNAT port redirection example. 
Left as 0/32, it would only redirect Very Weird Packets(tm), while

be122238a0 Describe and recommend the use of the LATEST_LINK variable in 
the Committer's Guide ports repo-copy section and in the package naming
section of the Porter's Handbook.  In the end, I wrote something that
turned out quite a bit different and somewhat more long-winded than
the suggestions in the PR, but LATEST_LINK was not documented anywhere
until now, so there :)

by Matteo Riondato and further work has been done by me and my great mentors.

24df652a45 Move around the text of the Vinum introduction a bit, in an effort to 
make more meaningful the text of the paragraph:

  <para><emphasis>Vinum</emphasis> is a so-called <emphasis>Volume
    Manager</emphasis>, a virtual disk driver that addresses these
    three problems.  Let us look at them in more detail.  Various
    solutions to these problems have been proposed and
    implemented.</para>

which seemed very out of place in the previous version of the text.

2e07ac4645 Remove redundant and outdated information from the "Who's Who" section. 
There's some useful stuff left in this section still, but we should

e54cf223f7 Clean up sample BSD license in Committer's Guide to match the one in 
/usr/share/examples/etc/bsd-style-copyright.  There were a number of
minor wording and formatting differences.  Provide it in C source
code format.

Add text talking about non-BSD licenses in the tree, including
limitations.

Add a paragraph adding strong caution when it comes to intellectual
property, pointing at the core team as a contact for any problems.

4d52815a6d - Add a new section "2.2 Hardware Requirements". This section 
contains a Minimal Configuration subsection explaining where one can
  find information about the minimal requirements to install FreeBSD
  (releng notes) and also provides a general sum up of this
  information (this sum up mainly comes from the release notes, some
  additional details and missing arch should be added in future).
- Merge the Supported Hardware section (2.10) with the new section (as
  a subsection), it was not really useful to talk about supported
  hardware at the end (or quite) of the installation chapter.

of the following styles:

The first one keeps only the *real* acronym letters inside the

2f18540604 Remove a reference to the `compat.linux.osrelease' sysctl. 
As Alexander Leidinger has pointed out:

"glibc behaves differently based upon the value of it. It may refuse to
do anything if it doesn't understand the value.  Changing the value of
osrelease is only advised in experimental situations (like in
http://wiki.freebsd.org/linux-kernel) and may result even in kernel
panics."

I've replaced a reference to `compat.linux.osrelease' with a safer
example, for setting `security.bsd.see_other_uids=0', which we already
use as a sample /etc/sysctl.conf entry anyway.

b93e6b5358 Various fixes to the "config and tuning" section of the Handbook. 
* Reword the paragraph before a set of tunables for Linux, as
    it wasa bit confusing.

  * Correct the name of 'kern.maxfiles' (it was 'kern.maxfile')
    before, and reword the text around it to remove the need for
    a possessive "'s", which would look funny after 'maxfiles'.

  * Finish properly a sentence which was missing a fullstop.

49041de2ea The docbook/4.1 `dbcent.mod' module contains references to public entities 
first defined in ${SGMLROOT}/html/catalog and ${SGML_ROOT}/iso8879/catalog.
By setting the SGML_CATALOG_FILES in the order suggested until now, we end
up with a value of SGML_CATALOG_FILES like (wrapped to keep the length of
the lines reasonable):

  /usr/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/share/sgml/catalog:/usr/doc/share/sgml/catalog:\
  /usr/local/share/sgml/docbook/4.1/catalog:/usr/local/share/sgml/html/catalog:\
  /usr/local/share/sgml/iso8879/catalog:/usr/local/share/sgml/jade/catalog

This means that when `dbcent.mod' refers to entities like %ISOamsa; they
are not known already (because they are defined in catalog files later in
the search path, not loaded by nsgmls yet).  This results in errors like:

  nsgmls:/usr/local/share/sgml/docbook/4.1/dbcent.mod:54:0:E: \
  cannot open "/usr/local/share/sgml/docbook/4.1/iso-amsa.gml" \
  (No such file or directory)

By rearranging the order of the catalog files a bit, we can convince nsgmls
to load the `html' and `iso8879' public entities first, and make it
possible to use nsgmls to validate DocBook SGML documents too (instead of
HTML only).

3892fc8415 o Reword a bit in a couple of places, to avoid using 'necessary' and 
'need' twice in the same sentence.

o   Replace <literal> tags with <emphasis> for `tag', `port' and
    `package' (they are really used as FreeBSD-specific terms, not as
    <literal> text here).

o   Expand a paragraph with inline URIs, which result in pretty awkward
    line breaks in PDF/PS output, to a <variablelist>.  This separates
    the URIs from the running text, and looks slightly prettier in print
    output.

a01b4db776 Suggest using /etc/rc.d/mountd onereload' instead of reload', 
to make sure that `mountd' is (re)loaded even if it's not yet
enabled in `/etc/rc.conf'.

Ideally, `mountd' should already be enabled in `rc.conf', but if
`mountd_enable' is not set to "YES" in `rc.conf', then running
the rc.d script with a plain `reload' argument does nothing.
Using `onereload' (with the rc.d-specific `one' prefix) makes
sure that `mountd' is temporarily enabled for the run of this
rc.d script and it does indeed reload its config files.
